Terms of use
Using Sketchroom
Sketchroom is free to use. It is offered "as is", without any promise that it will always work, stay online or keep your work safe. Features may change or stop. Keep copies of anything important with File > Export PNG or Save drawing file.
Your account
You sign in with Google. Keep your Google account secure, and use only your own account. You must be at least 13 years old to make an account.
Your art is yours
You keep all rights to the drawings, brushes and other things you make or upload. Sketchroom does not claim ownership of them. By using the site, you let it store your work and show it back to you (and, in future features, to people you choose to share with) only so the site can work. Sketchroom will never sell your work or use it to train AI.
Only upload what you have the right to use
- Only import pictures and brushes, upload fonts and make brushes that you own or are allowed to use. For example, only import brushes from another app if you made or bought them, and only upload a font file if its license allows it. Brushes imported from other apps stay private in your account and can't be added to the free library.
- Don't upload anything illegal, hateful, harassing, sexual content involving minors, or other people's private information.
- Images you import to trace stay private in your account. Tracing someone else's art is fine for practice, but make sure you have permission before you share or sell a traced piece.
The free brush library
When you suggest one of your brushes for the free library and the owner adds it, you agree that everyone using Sketchroom can use that brush, for free, in their own art. You still own the brush.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Sketchroom infringes your copyright, send a report with the contact form. Say what the work is, where it appears, and that you own it or act for the owner. Reported content will be reviewed and removed if it infringes. Accounts that repeatedly infringe will be removed.
Removing content and accounts
The owner may remove content or accounts that break these terms.
Limits
As far as the law allows, Sketchroom and its owner are not responsible for lost work, damages or problems that come from using the site.
Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed.
Privacy policy
What is collected
- From Google sign-in: your name, email address, profile photo and a user ID. Sketchroom does not show your Google name, photo or email to other people.
- Your profile: the username and any optional details you add (display name, pronouns, location, bio, links, picture, color).
- Your work: images, folders, projects, brushes, fonts, saved colors, and brushes you suggest.
- Friends: who your friends are, and the friend requests you send and receive.
- Drawing together: which images you share with which friends, and, while you draw together, each change you make (kept for a few minutes so the others receive it, then deleted).
- Messages you send with the contact form, including anything you choose to put in them.
Who can see it
- Only you: your email, your friends list, your brushes, fonts and colors, and anything in your library you make private.
- Your friends: the images, folders and projects in your library that you have not made private. They can look at them but not change them. Friends only exist when you accept a request, or someone accepts yours, and you can remove a friend at any time. If you have no friends on Sketchroom, nobody else sees your library.
- Friends you draw together with: an image you invite them to. They can see it, draw on it and save their changes into it, until you stop sharing it. If you are invited to someone else's image, they and the others invited see the changes you make to it.
- Someone you send a friend request to: your username and profile, so they can decide.
- Other signed-in people: your username and the profile details you choose to add. Don't put your email, phone number or address in your profile.
- The owner: brush suggestions (shown with your username), contact messages, and, like any site owner, the stored data in the Firebase admin console, used only to run the site and handle reports.
Where it is stored
In Google Firebase (Firestore database and Cloud Storage) in the United States, protected by security rules that only let you reach your own private data, your friends reach the library items you have not made private, and the friends you invite reach the images you draw on together. Your browser also keeps a working copy of the drawing you have open and a few settings (IndexedDB and local storage).
What is not done
No ads, no tracking or analytics cookies, no selling or renting of your data, and no AI training on your art. Firebase uses your browser's storage only to keep you signed in.
Deleting your data
You can delete images, folders, projects, brushes and fonts yourself at any time. To delete your whole account and everything in it, send a privacy request with the contact form.
Children
Sketchroom is not meant for children under 13, and accounts of children under 13 will be deleted.
